Outsource Your Health & Fitness: What It Means & Why It’s Important

May 25, 2018 by Dan Holguin 2 Comments

In a past life, I built emergency vehicles for the military and other government agencies.

I took great pride in this because I really felt as if I was making a difference in the world. Whenever a natural disaster would strike, my work would allow first-responders to help more people, more efficiently.

We built everything in house; start to finish, every last detail. Each project took about six months to complete. You can imagine the amount of time, energy, efficiency and decision-making that went into each project we created.

As I became more familiar with the build out of these machines, I began to question why we weren’t outsourcing some of the work.

It seemed as though we were always hitting snags around the same places; which leads me to this powerful piece of advice I want to share with you today…

Don’t be afraid to outsource what costs too much for you to do

The smartest and most progressive businesses in the world do this all the time. By saving on certain costs up front, leads to better margins and ultimately, a more sustainable future.

Think about how it relates to your business. There are several things that you are not particularly skilled at that should be done to someone else.

One of my early coaches in business echoes this…

“Focus on your 5%” he would always say.

Then challenge me to delegate more and more.

His point was to solely focus on the 5% of tasks I am a genius at doing and then outsource the other 95%

Here’s how it relates to your training, and more specifically, your health.

The best companies are always looking to optimize their systems by finding weak points and then solving by having someone else do the work.

As it relates to high performers and entrep’s, we get to look at our daily operations and ask the same questions.

“What do I keep saying I’ll start doing more of next week?”

For a lot of us, it’s our health, training and nutrition.

And it’s no wonder we have the same conversations each week. Our daily operations are consumed with the other moving parts in our business and since our most limited resources are time, will power and efficiency, we just get tired of making so many damn decisions.

Case Western & FSU did a study that proved humans have a finite amount of mental energy each day for making quality decisions that lead to a greater quality of life and after a certain threshold is met, quality declines.

Wouldn’t it be best to outsource the time and mental energy it takes to create effective health/fitness solutions? Especially with someone who understands what you need to create a massive impact?

Just like a company would invest in a specialist to reduce the headaches and guesswork, you may want to invest in your health to do the same.

That way, you free up more of those limited resources (time, energy, efficiency) to do the things that bring the most joy in your life like QT with the family or maybe that side project you’ve been thinking about starting.

A great business understands where it’s lacking in productivity.
The quicker it realizes it needs help, the quicker it receives it.
Your body is your business. Don’t be afraid to outsource parts
of the process in efforts to create a bigger impact.

Dan & Dan

May 25, 2018 by Dan Holguin Leave a Comment

I remember the first time we met.

It was a sunny day in June and he had just flown in from Florida as he does every year to enjoy summertime in Montana.

His easy-going demeanor made it easy to carry conversation.

He’s done so many incredible things in his life that his stories leave me cross-legged and starry-eyed.

His name is Dan and is probably the kindest, generous, wealthiest man you’ve never heard of.

His resume of charitable contributions is as long as the list of multi-million dollar companies he’s created.

He’s been all over the world (literally), owned private islands in the Caribbean, and created a legacy in continuing education that will be tough to beat.

But the highlight reel isn’t all there is to see…

You see, over the past three years we have been working hard to regain control of his health despite some major medical conditions and although we’ve made hit some major milestones, we still get to accomplish so much more.

Now in his late 60’s, I see how much his health really means to him even though it wasn’t always this way.

“It just wasn’t much of a priority then” he said.

“I was traveling every week, in meetings all day, and found it easier and easier to put it on the back burner.”

Maybe this sounds like you or someone you know?

Maybe there’s a small hint of guilt you’re feeling as you read these words?!

And of course it’s easier to neglect our health for task completion, but let me ask you, at what cost does this come?

If all you did was prioritize everything above your health, who really wins? On family vacations are you chasing your kids across the beach? Hiking up to a scenic overlook with your spouse? Running with the bulls in Spain?

OR

are you stuck by the pool or in the hotel lobby having a drink because you can’t keep up?

I’ve worked with some major players in the game who all say the same thing–in their own words of course.

“I’d rather have great health and zero capital, than unlimited resources and no quality of life to enjoy them.”

It’s my belief that you feel the same way too and I believe at some point, we all pay for our health.

Whether we choose to do it early on in life with gym memberships and fitness coaches or later on when it becomes a problem and we’re paying for hospital visits and medication.

And I know some who read this will argue that despite all the incredible contributions that my friend Dan has made in the world, he has still been wildly successful. There’s no doubt about this…

But I can’t help but wonder as to what may have been left on the table had he taken action on his health at a younger age.

Regardless, he is an amazing friend, mentor, and business coach to me and I’m grateful for this man everyday.

Remember, the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is right now.

Don’t wait for a problem before creating a solution.

So I’d like to ask you…

What are you currently leaving on the table?

My Transformation

May 25, 2018 by Dan Holguin Leave a Comment

Here’s me 30 lbs overweight…You might say, “you still have abs” or whatever but look into my eyes. What do you see?

You can’t imagine the war going on inside me when this pic was taken…

If there’s one thing I’ve focused on my entire life, it’s been my health.

Then everything changed the day I lost Coach C.

Here’s the Fun Facts:
✔Slipped into deep depression and PTSD
✔Gained 30 pounds
✔Truck totaled in collision
✔Fired from job
✔Marriage called off
✔Moved back into my moms

And to top it all off, my I racked up 40k in credit card debt buying stuff to feel better …All in 6 months.

I had successfully laid the groundwork for an award-winning country song.

My habits, behaviors, self-image and confidence were non-existent…I didn’t even know who I was anymore.

My energy levels were on empty and my family suffered just as much as I did because I wasn’t as present and engaging.

I knew I needed to start making changes but was so overwhelmed at knowing where to begin that I didn’t even start.

I had no action plan–I didn’t have anyone to show me how to regain control of my life and my health.

I didn’t want to ask for help because I thought it meant I was weak (which I was).

So I made changes. BIG changes.

I chose to invest in myself by hiring coaches, listening to podcasts, and hung around more people who had already created the results I wanted to have.

And because of this, I’m 32 years young and getting happier, stronger and healthier every year.

I’m grateful for this because I’ve been able to do some pretty incredible things like: run with the bulls in Spain, climb Machu Picchu in Peru and compete on the hit NBC show, American Ninja Warrior.

I’m living my ideal life because of the commitments I made to myself to regain my health–My parenting level is top notch, my business has grown exponentially, and my level of impact has skyrocketed.

And the truth is, you can do it too. Every day that you choose to prioritize everything else over your health, is another day you are robbing the world of your gifts and your best self.

What are you leaving on the table by neglecting this? How many more years could you impact?

The world is waiting for you.
